Six Years of Press Coffee

Six Years of Press Coffee

Opening July 17, 2013, Press Coffee Company was founded by four local entrepreneurs: Chad Andrews, Ryan From, Sam Thibodeaux, and Swen Larson. The four have been long-time friends and share many things in common, including a passion for great coffee.

What initially started as morning gatherings over an average cup of coffee turned into a quest to find the best beans, blends, and roasts as well as the perfect brewing style. While the founders of Press Coffee realize that coffee is a personal experience for everyone, they feel they have combined the best of brewing styles with the freshest, locally roasted beans available to make your personal tasting experience extraordinary.

Fast forward six years and Press is still providing the best cup of coffee in the North Coralville area. Many things have changed but some have still stayed the same. Our outdoor cafe has grown into a lovely space to enjoy coffee and conversation and has even become easier to access with our new side door. (Watch your step!) Supplementing the patio are flowers, umbrellas, bike racks, and dog bowls for your furry friends. With the help of Tom Ford, our most recent outdoor addition is the Little Free Library. It contains a nice mix of books for children, young adults, and adults, with a secret stash of dog treats underneath.

Our food and drink offerings have evolved over the years with different vendors providing sweet treats in the bake case and our personal rotation of seasonal drinks. Last year we added breakfast and lunch sandwiches to the menu, toasting them up for guests who are relaxing at the shop or busy on the go. However, one of the biggest changes to our menu came this year when Daylight Donuts stepped down from wholesale deliveries when they had to move from their Court Street location at the end of May. They had been a fantastic vendor for us since the beginning, even expanding their options to accommodate the pastry needs of coffee drinkers. With that sad news came our new relationship with Donutland from Cedar Rapids. So far it has been a tasty change with many excited guests who are happy to have a local spot for their favorite treat.

Other new additions include the Butterbeer Latte, Cafe Tonic, a Burundi roast from Kickapoo, Lavender Fog, Mayan Mocha, and Maple Latte. These magical creations would not be possible without the creative minds behind the counter. The collaboration of the staff is a piece that is very special about Press. We have an exceptional team with over 50 years of practice in the art of coffee. Our backgrounds in the coffee and service industry have prepared us to provide a unique experience to our guests on a daily basis.

The layout inside Press Coffee has changed a bit in six years too, including new bar seating to accommodate our study crowd which is always growing. Press has even become a gallery for local artists as we opened up our walls to the art community starting last summer. Since then we have had a dozen artists featured for five weeks at a time, and are booked through March 1st of 2020.

While some things have been updated, our staff is still striving to provide you the best cup of coffee in our area by continuing to prepare all of our brewed coffee by the French press method. We are happy to continue this tradition as we believe it is a delicious way to start your day. Thank you for supporting Press Coffee over the years, here’s to many more!
